End User Experience Monitoring (EUEM) Definition

End User Experience Monitoring enables teams to monitor the impact of application and device performance from the end user’s point of view. EUEM products help IT ensure the quality of key IT services across an enterprise. Unlike domain-specific monitoring tools that look at performance and availability of individual infrastructure components, EUEM products monitor IT, as seen by the end user.

 

Methods of End User Experience Monitoring

There are four primary approaches to End User Experience Monitoring. Synthetic monitoring tools run a script that emulate users’ interactions with applications. JavaScript injection times what the user sees in their browser as they interact with a web application. Real User Monitoring collects network-based response time and performance metrics that affect end user experience. Device-based EUEM monitors application performance and device health from the point of consumption, the user’s device.

 

Business activity analytics

Business activity analytics is a primary difference between leading EUEM products and Device Performance Monitoring (DPM) products. With business activity analytics, you can monitor the response time your workforce sees as they interact with their apps in the context of a business workflow. You can set SLAs based on business processes, such as “look up a patient” or “process a claim.” Some application performance monitoring products provide similar functionality, but many are limited to web apps or require tagging the code.

 

Data transmission and compliance

Aternity Agents and SDKs communicate only over HTTPS and all database disk volumes are encrypted. By default, proper configuration results in no collection of sensitive customer metrics, such as PCI or PHI data. Monitoring Mobile Apps

Monitoring user experience for mobile apps requires a different approach. Rather than instrumenting the device, developers instrument individual apps for monitoring, using either an SDK or a mobile wrapper. IT can monitor instrumented apps only when they run in the foreground. Enterprises must instrument apps before they make them available for distribution in a public app store.
